I just noticed that i can’t upload new post with Ecto anymore since i upgraded to Wordpress 1.5, i read somewhere that using the latest nightly build of xmlrpc.php should fix this… but it didn’t. If your reading this and have a solution don’t be afraid to share it.

update: it seems it’s not really broken the pages just fail to generate… or something. the DB gets updated fine but apparently Wordpress 1.5 is doing some caching somewhere(?) and fails to notice the pages have been updated. I’m kind of in the dark here but this seems to be what is happening.

update: first new bug i found is that my textile plugin seems to have stopped working…
update2: the syntax highlighter stopped working too

-I upgraded wordpress to the nightly build version 1.5 (beta is scary)
-I installed the recent activity plugin you see on the right (feedback is good)
-I dumped the upload tool (interactivity is overrated)

the new version should fix the issues i was having with kittens spaminator, i hope. no more comment spam, i wish.

I hereby declare Movable Type to be “old skool crap”:http://www.movabletype.org. While you might remember it took less than an our to set up this here “Wordpress”:http://www.wordpress.org/ blog, install “a comment spam plugin”:http://mookitty.co.uk/devblog/category/kittens-spaminator/ and clean out the old comment spam that was already posted i just spend 5 f*cking hours cleaning up a weblog using MT. First i needed to upgrade which required several trips to the manual (!) and the MT forum (!!) before i could get it to work properly. Then i needed to install the MT Blacklist plugin which needed all sorts of tweaking before it would work and another trip to the MT blacklist forum (!!) and finally i spent several hours weeding out the comment spam that was already in there wading through error mssgs generated by MT-blacklist and warnings about the spam containing too many URLs too handle (c’mon its Perl for cryin out loud!). All this because of the lack of a ‘de-spam all’ button and the utter slowness of MT’s static posting system. Yes MT’s interface is bloody great, i know.

I still love “Wordpress”:http://www.wordpress.org/. In the four years i have been blogging (feels like ten). I have installed and used home brewn, hosted, pre built and whatnot weblog systems, CMS type stuff and others made in perl, PHP and even java and this one feels right. It’s simple but not too simple. It just works. Still no smart comment spam solution out there though (c’mon is wordlists the best we can come up with?!)

Yes i know the buddha pic on the left there is a bit unoriginal. I stole and edited this CSS template and it came with the buddha alright… I’ll get right of it sooner or later.

If you can read this the Ecto blogging tool works with my Wordpress. Which is cool. At least this makes for a handy conference blogging tool

The Wordpress 1.2.1 release i installed is missing the xmlrpc.php file making it’s BlogAPI unavailable. Get it from the 1.2 release and copy it to your WP root dir.

Switched to Wordpress today. Really no reason for me to still be using Blogger and Wordpress is what all the bloggers of the programmer variety seem to be using so it should be reasonably good. At least i am finally hosting my own content.

The template is still an out-of-the-box one i found here. But i’ll fix that soon enough.
