At RoomWareDevHouse we intend to investigate possible applications, host discussion and do some hacking while enjoying a tasty beverage. The event is free and anyone interested can attend as long as you intend to participate.

Loosely styled after SuperHappyDevHouse we hope to talk about and even build some of the applications that we will display at a later RoomWare event. Furthermore we intend to start development on an open source RoomWare platform that anyone can build on to provide RoomWare applications at their own event or location.

Ban on social networks in effect

Monday, July 31st, 2006

I missed this news when it first came out but appearently a stunning 410-15 US congressmen voted for a law that demands from schools and universities that they block social networking sites. Social networking sites are defined as sites that, among other things, allow “communication among users”. Let that sink in for a minute.

Note the 410 clueless congressmen & women.

Web 2.0 Forum

Blueace

S3 crazy useful

Thursday, July 13th, 2006

Jungledisk
Yahoo! posted some examples of how businesses are using their S3 storage servers and i must say i’m very impressed at their little list. I was enthusiastic when they first opened the service to the public and even started work on a little wordpress storage plugin (which i never finished) but i didn’t know the service was already as widely used as it seems to be. It’s great to see a service that is equally useful for little web startups, allowing them to grow, and Microsoft at the same time. This also proves there is a real market for commercial API based services as long as they are affordable and can scale.

Friendster gets US patent

Saturday, July 8th, 2006

News today: Friendster gets a patent on social networks US gets more retarded. I guess a .eu domain will become a good investment as the US is becoming a harder market to target every day. Start working on your internationalization skills people, english won’t cut it anymore.

Piraten

update: and of course let’s make sure europe does not get just as retarded. There are a lot of big companies successfully persuading politicians to introduce software patents to europe but that battle has not been won yet. As far as software goes patents only gain is short term and for huge companies.

update2: Zweden heeft ondertussen zijn eigen piraten partij welke ten strijde gaat voor het aanpassen van copyright en patent regels naar een vorm die innovatie vriendelijk wordt.

When vlogs boom

Friday, July 7th, 2006

When news of vlog anchors leaving gets printed in the washington post and some kid who made two or three youtube fanvideos gets signed by a hollywood studio you know that vlogs are booming. I guess TV is pretty starved for talent.
