Friendster gets US patent
News today: Friendster gets a patent on social networks US gets more retarded. I guess a .eu domain will become a good investment as the US is becoming a harder market to target every day. Start working on your internationalization skills people, english won’t cut it anymore.

update: and of course let’s make sure europe does not get just as retarded. There are a lot of big companies successfully persuading politicians to introduce software patents to europe but that battle has not been won yet. As far as software goes patents only gain is short term and for huge companies.
update2: Zweden heeft ondertussen zijn eigen piraten partij welke ten strijde gaat voor het aanpassen van copyright en patent regels naar een vorm die innovatie vriendelijk wordt.

I made some updates to my text Tijs.
Nice quote from slashdot:
Patents are for society, not the individual. It’s supposed to push progress forward by opening non-obvious ideas for everyone for a limited time. Not MONOPOLIZE obvious ideas for the benefit of one person against the rest of society
