I missed this news when it first came out but appearently a stunning 410-15 US congressmen voted for a law that demands from schools and universities that they block social networking sites. Social networking sites are defined as sites that, among other things, allow “communication among usersâ€. Let that sink in for a minute.

Ik had er volgens mij nog niet op deze plek naar verwezen dus bij deze nog maar eens; BlueAce heeft een interessant forum voor web 2.0 bouwers, denkers en ondernemers. Met op dit moment o.a. discussies over businees ideeen, microformats en vacatures voor RoR developers. Ik ben er zelf in ieder geval regelmatig te vinden.

Deel ingekochte bandbreedte bij AMS-IX door abonnees en je weet wat jouw provider heeft ingekocht per abo.
Voor mijn provider Casema is het sommetje als volgt: Casema is gekoppeld met 2×10Gbps = 20.000 Mbps voor +1.500.000 abonnees. De overboekingsfactor is 1:75, Oftewel een werkelijk gereserveerde capaciteit per abonnee van 13,5 Kbps. Bar weinig dus. Dat merk je overigens alleen in piekuren maar toch.
update: ben benieuwd hoeveel abonnees Wanadoo heeft. Volgens dit staatje met 4×10Gbps een behoorlijke capaciteit in ieder geval.
Does anybody know of an extension that takes the Mac OS X location settings (proxy settings) and changes the FireFox settings on the fly? I hate having to set them in FireFox seperatly. Theoretically this should be possible right?
update: QuickProxy is not exactly what i want but at least it makes the process a one-click affair.
Yahoo! posted some examples of how businesses are using their S3 storage servers and i must say i’m very impressed at their little list. I was enthusiastic when they first opened the service to the public and even started work on a little wordpress storage plugin (which i never finished) but i didn’t know the service was already as widely used as it seems to be. It’s great to see a service that is equally useful for little web startups, allowing them to grow, and Microsoft at the same time. This also proves there is a real market for commercial API based services as long as they are affordable and can scale.
Firefox is now at 13% adoption worldwide according to OneStat with as much as 38% for Germany. The Netherlands still hovers around the 12% but that is already up much from a few months back. Safari only seems to gain traction in the US with a respectable 3.2%.
Instead of doing some sort of yearly top ten or random post on OS X software i like i can now simply point you to my profile on iUseThis. It’s not complete yet as not everything i use is in the iUseThis database but i’m adding the last few myself. My complete profile should make a nice starter list for Mac switchers as would the other profiles on the site. Nice concept overall and usefull already.
