Too many startup ideas

Tuesday, January 31st, 2006

I am looking at a beta of videobomb and it’s pretty neat. Actually it’s exactly like one of the startup ideas i had; a vote based internet video channel that you can subscribe to with RSS (dump the tv, get itunes!). You know what they say though; it isn’t a good idea if 20 other people haven’t thought of it too. I’m glad that somebody at least found the time to build it and i like that it’s built by the good people of the participatory culture foundation. Can’t blog about any of the details though, sorry.

How networking should work

Monday, January 30th, 2006

Hamachi looks to be a very promising step towards zero config networking. Appearently you can share itunes through this, play lan games or any other task you might use a VPN for. I’m having a buit of trouble with the mac osx version but the windows and linux versions work fine already and a mac version with a GUI is expected to be out soon.

ideas on a PHP Security Architecture

Saturday, January 28th, 2006

Andrew is calling for a PHP Security Architecture, a single design idea for how PHP should implement security features. His take in short is; make the default basic behaviour the safe behaviour. I think he makes a very good case for his vision, and it seems Rasmus and his troupe are listening.

Holland’s New Greeting for Immigrants: ‘If it Ain’t Dutch, It Ain’t Much’

Once one of Europe’s most immigrant-friendly countries, the Netherlands has lately been cracking down. A new proposal that only Dutch be spoken on the streets of Holland is just the latest idea. Boot camps for immigrants are also being considered.

Apple’s educatin’

Wednesday, January 25th, 2006

Apple Introduces iTunes U to make university lectures available to anyone through their music store, combined with earlier rumors (facts?) that Apple will be offering a free service to universities to record and distribute their lectures easily with RSS feeds this looks to be a win-win for all parties involved. Great marketing for Apple great cheap services for educators.

365 days of MP3s in a torrent

Tuesday, January 24th, 2006

You may have once started downloading the MP3 files from the 365 days project when it first started and then probably kept it up for about a month, like me, after which you forgot all about the site. Luckily a post on ochblog reminded me of the page and it now features a month by month overview which made the ideal starting point for a downloading spree. Since you are probably too lazy too click 365 files, like me, i made a nice little torrent for your perusal. Please download, share and seed!

Wooster goes video

Wooster Collective, one of the best (street) art sites around will start to focus on video in the coming year. The first examples are just some bombing videos but i expect them to start posting really interesting material as the year progresses.
