Update: This is pretty amazing… Purely based on some network tracing wizardry plazes calculated the exact longitude difference between my own and a neighbors location who lives only 100 metres away. Just to emphasize; plazes only uses a little app you install on your mac or pc that calculates your location without any gps, user input, whatever. Cool stuff.

And i’m back!

In a tale of distress, misery and miscommunication this very site was kidnapped, ransomed and mistreated before being heroically rescued and put back online again.

Although this site was physically right here all the time in the past few weeks nobody could actually see it. This was because the domain name this site was using had expired and nobody bothered to tell me it was about to do so. Or maybe somebody did but the mail never made it to my inbox. Anyway, i tried to get in contact with the guys who do the hosting for this site (deafening-urge.net) and get them to renew my domain name. This proved difficult to say the least. After finally reaching one of the employees on an IRC channel all he could tell me was that his boss had been acting a bit strange lately and that i better get my hosting the hell of their servers before the rest of my sites suffered the same fate. Unluckily this same employee had no access to the administration systems anymore so there was nothing he could do. This status quo continued for a while in which i got some email replies from the boss but never any solutions. So finally i contacted the people that deafening-urge bought their domain names from. After some pleading i got them to release the domain name over to me leading to the glorious result of my weblog being online again. The physical website is still hosted at DU though so i’ll have to still solve that problem. Luckily none of my other websites hosted at DU were registered through them.

The morale of this story is of course never to register your domain name with the same people who host it. And to make sure that your domain name is registered in your own name not some born again christian cokeheads at some hosting provider somewhere in texas. If the last would also have been the case i would have never gotten my domain name back.

Thanks for listening, we’ll get on with the regular broadcasting now.
