Metro for the trainless

I just discovered that the Free Metro newspaper you usually get at the train is also available as a free download at MetroPoint. Although it’s more newsfeed than actual paper the Metro has it’s uses and coupled with this particular Automater action (Mac only) you have a simple setup to catch the latest news if you’re in a hurry but not in a train.

Mac or Windows?

Thursday, August 11th, 2005

I’m reading lots of stories about people getting Mac OS X running on all sorts of different x86 systems a.k.a. “PC’s” today. Although this means the security measures were about as good as most security measures; hackable. It also means that Mac OS X has some serious potential beyond the OS of choice for design conscious nerds. What would happen if OS X would simply run on any machine like say… linux. If Apple would still make hardware but only for those who don’t mind paying extra for design. If Apple would essentially become a software company. Although public predictions are dangerous i wouldn’t be surprised if they would have 25% market share (instead of the measly 4% they have know) of the OS market in say… 3 years? Apple is not a great software company mind you but it’s -so much better- at making software than Microsoft. I have to use excel on my mac to fill in my bookkeepers sheets and trust me it sucks. Not because it’s bookkeeping but because the software is essentially broken. So if Apple started releasing boxed OS X for any old machine i wouldn’t mind at all. My bookkeeper would probably start using decent software for her sheets, and i would probably still pay extra for a nicely designed computer.

Thats just so obvio

This ugly little bugger is soon to be introduced in Europe:
Obvio

Featuring a 250 horsepower engine (in a 600kg car!), on board internet, freakish color coordination, steering wheel gear changing (F1 style) and a plastic frame. I love it already!

MSN 5.0 is out

The Dutch are probably the most avid users of MSN over other services like AOL, Yahoo etc. so the fact that Microsoft has finally released a new MSN version is very good news for us Dutch Apple users. Yes Adium is cool and all but id rather use the -official- client and forget about the details.

Del.icio.us auto posting thingy

Monday, August 8th, 2005

I tried out the delicious automatic posting of daily links thing for a bit, as you may have noticed, but the crappy html (whats with all the br’s and divs in the list items?) is just too much too bear on my little site. On another note; i amy try out lightpress one of these days. Appearently someone has ridden wordpress of all it’s extra baggage (heavy SQL mostly) and made a tuned version. Neato!

update: installing lightpress was easy enough (it installs as a WP plugin). and it works, which is nice. you are looking at the default template right now which is… ehmm. Clean! At least it feels less cramped than the overusd Kubrick. One day i will actually put some effort in a new template… really!

update: i just turned on lightpress’s built in del.icio.us plugin to show my latest bookmarks on the homepage. It’s shows all now but you could easily set it to just post bookmarks with a specific tag.
