Programming 101

Tuesday, July 19th, 2005

Cool, this is the first ‘learning to program’ course i have seen that uses Ruby as the programming language: Learn to Program, by Chris Pine. Since Ruby is a real OO language unlike some others and uses some natural language construct niceties like Smalltalk it could be a great fit for IT classes. Although i haven’t had a chance to really dive into Ruby yet myself, I did get the PickAxe! :)

telegraaf.nl wordt weblog

Thursday, July 14th, 2005

Guns, Germs and Steel on PBS

Monday, July 11th, 2005

The Guns, Germs and Steel book, which is next on my to-read list, has been made into a tv series apparently. Now i’ll just have to wait until some dutch network bobo puts it on his or her to-buy list.

Download Squad

Thursday, July 7th, 2005

I have been following this new Download Squad weblog for a bit and although the hype and the huge staff put me off a bit i must admit that it’s all very well done. If you are one of those people who keeps on downloading new beta apps like some bit addict you will probably like what they are doing. I really tried to say something nasty about them but i couldn’t come up with anything relevant. Cool selections, keep it up.

RSS feeds

Tuesday, July 5th, 2005

Just finished another round of RSS feed cleaning. This time round i simply threw out all the blogs that only offer partial content like headlines or excerpts. Those just waste my time. My newsreader use has totally changed the way i read weblogs since i hardly ever look at the actual webpages anymore. Mobile web users will choose their own interface too. For weblogs, the interface that you offer might not matter much longer.

Funny thing is that i don’t write my weblog entries on the web either, i use ecto. A sign of things to come where microformats and web 2.0 make browsers obsolete and the application designer the new web designer?
