Microformats website launched

Keep an eye on the guys over at microformats.org. They may well play a small part in shaping the future of the internet.

Why is it smart? Because it uses existing architecture to add a layer of, human-readable, meaning to the exisiting structure of the web. No new technology is needed. Everyone can contribute. The microformat with the most support wins.

So what’s not to like? A lot of the current microformats don’t seem very useful to me. Votelinks for instance states:

Indexing and tracking applications treat all links as endorsements, or expressions of support. This is a problem, as we need to link to those we disagree with as well, to discuss why.

I don’t think this is a problem though. A negative endorsment is still an endorsment of the value of the opinion. If it didn’t matter you wouldn’t be talking about it. But that’s just an example and altough some of the proposals could maybe use some outsider input the general idea’s are certainly noteworthy.
