…since i am unable to get rid of some weird flukes with dmg files showing up as exe files and having excel icons, and general slow startup troubles. but then i read this. But of course i would be quite mad to buy and install the initial Tiger release… maybe upgrade to a powerbook first? ;)

A short summary of great New Business by Jason Kottke: My business influences (kottke.org).

I’m not sure if his own ‘pay me so i can write more stuff on my weblog’ spiel qualifies as a business idea though. And 30 bucks is a bit steep. I can buy wonderful software (for instance) that makes my life better right now for 30 bucks. Why not make the micropatrons microinvestors? That would be a nice idea. If i could have microinvested in Flickr when they first started i would have done so without trepidation (nice word that :).

Specialization is for insects

Thursday, March 10th, 2005

“A Man should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently and die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.”

Three ducks

Monday, March 7th, 2005

Not sure if the family arms is the same as the english coat of arms but my father just sent me this nice pic of the family ‘brand’. In this picture it is used on a map of Persia Dirk Teulings (or Tholincx) had made for the VOC of which he was one of the captains. I think it’s rather nice although i might be slightly biased. The three birds on there are ducks or Merletten as they are apparently known officially. I guess Dirk was a bit of a playa since he added a fourth one on top of his hat. Why not is what i say.

Collaborative book writing software: Hieraki. Very nice for documentation that you want to outsource to your users or a team of programmers.
