I joined the Dutch Power Cows team in their effort to get to the top of the distributed.net stats. The distributed.net effort to crack the 64bit RC5 encryption code is a nice challenge I would think. 2^64 (18.446.744.073.709.551.616) combinations is a big processor load. And this combined-geeks-united stuff in combination with all the charts and the kick to see your rankings climb makes for a nice way to recycle those unused processor cycles.

Take a look at this reference (in dutch) on setting up your client.

Oi oi oi, no time to update. No time I tell you… I’m almost finished with the bredband portal. Which will be cool. And the rest of my time is filled with eating and dining and moviegoing. Why? because everytime I touch my computer lately it turns to shit. So i’m just leaving it alone for a bit.

On a positive note… it seems UPC got it’s ass kicked when two spokespersons appeared on national television yesterday and where totally creamed by the audience and the staff off three different consumer programs. View the show at the tros site.

Installed windowsME yesterday. Got totally annoyed with it today. And then found out I couldnt access my ghost files with my old installation from ME. &*@#^&. So I had to use my very first ghost from a bootable cd which contains exactly nothing. Well… win98SE and a virusscanner.

grrrr.

I am getting more and more pleased with BeOS which is my second OS and hard on its way to becoming my first OS. Everything is fast and smooth and it stays that way under BE. Try it by downloading the personal edition and then read this if you dont wanna pay for the professional version.

I stumbled upon Startkabel.nl which is the first site I have seen that neatly orders working MP3, Warez and DivX download sites. Yes, they actually work. So you don’t have to spend hours chatting in IRC and get to know the right people if you just want to download a good ASF version of Dogma.

I needed an online drive to store files I use at the university and at home so I tested a few sites. Altough Xdrive is probably best known it has a very ugly interface that isn’t very intuitive, Driveway on the other hand is superb. It looks great, has all the functionality I need (and not a thing more) and it’s easy and quick to use. If you need more than 25 megs however and you don’t care if the site looks crappy you should use MySpace which offers 300(!) megs of disk for free.

EchoEcho.Com - “More than 100 daily updated web news - and so much more…
Online news - updated 24 hours a day - on the fly!

All your webrelated tech news in one place!”

this is quite handy. Their sources are: c-net, pcworld, cmp.net, wired, and eboz. Which is just about right. would be nice if they had slashdot up there too though.

p.s. you can built your own page just like this by using the free isyndicate tools.

Sony to launch new pet robot by year’s end
Sony Corp. said on Thursday it will begin selling a new pet robot by the end of the year as a mechanical pal for its popular “Aibo” robot dog.

“It will be a friend of Aibo’s, but we can’t say anything more about it,” a Sony spokeswoman said. Further details, including the robot’s launch date, will be announced on October 12.

In a strange move a few top IT companies are setting up huge internet poll to map cultural differences and beliefs around the world.

Interesting idea…

“Using a wide range of technologies never combined before, the project’s goal is to involve people of all nations in an experience that enables them to instantly share and compare their thoughts, beliefs, opinions, fears, similarities, and differences.”
